01 / The project

La Nuit is a UAE brand selling two things for the same hour of the day: framed fine-art prints for the walls of a room you do not show everyone, and body-safe intimate wellness devices for the drawer beside the bed. Nineteen pieces across art, devices and accessories, every one of them made to order. The tagline is two words, Feel. Desire., and the brief was a storefront that could carry both halves of the catalogue without either one embarrassing the other.

The category is the whole difficulty. Sell intimate wellness badly and the shop reads as either clinical or seedy, and both lose the customer who was already unsure about buying at all. This had to feel like a luxury house. That meant the restraint had to be real rather than decorative: low-lit photography, editorial typesetting, product writing closer to a jeweller than a chatroom, and a palette of ink, cream and rose that never once raises its voice.

Discretion is not a promise on a policy page here, it is a feature that had to be built. Orders ship in plain packaging with nothing on the outside, checkout works as a guest with no account required, and the storefront repeats that commitment at the three moments a hesitant buyer looks for it: the announcement bar, the reassurance block on the product page and the pre-order panel above the button. Saying it once, in the FAQ, would have been a design failure.

Nothing is pulled from a shelf, so the commerce model is pre-order rather than stock, and Shopify does not ship that as a behaviour. We built it: an honest ship estimate on every product page, a pre-order state carrying its own terms, a card charged at checkout because that is precisely what reserves the piece from the next production run, and a three-step explainer on the homepage that answers the question the model creates before a customer has to go looking. The alternative, quietly selling made-to-order items as though they were in stock, is how a brand like this earns its first refund requests instead of its first repeat orders.

The storefront is a custom theme rather than a theme-store purchase with the colours changed. The wishlist, quick add, the cart drawer, gift wrap, the free-gift threshold, predictive search, the page transitions and the toasts that confirm all of it are ours, which is why they behave like one system instead of five apps arguing over the same page. Owning the theme is also what made the returns work possible, and that is the part most stores in this category simply do not attempt.

The product page is where the category's real anxiety gets answered. A seven-point intensity scale, so nobody has to guess what they are actually buying. The full specification in plain language: materials, waterproof rating, charge and run time, how loud it is. Care and safety written out rather than implied. And the returns rule stated on the product itself, sealed and unused only, fourteen days from delivery, with a self-serve flow that starts the return instead of asking the customer to compose an email about it. Every one of those is a reason not to abandon the cart.

The result is a shop that behaves like a luxury brand in a category where almost nothing does, and a storefront the founder can keep merchandising without coming back to us for every change. Live at lanuit.me.
